Although actually operating on a test basis in Ste-Agathe for over 5 years, GAC “..decided to commercialize what was already a very successful demonstrator service..” stated Mr. Aaron Remer, Director and CEO of the company. “Initially the service was intended to provide high speed internet for a few local families”, he said and “the demand grew so great that the decision was made to test its market potential. Now, after 2 years we are providing service to areas as far north at Mont Tremblant and as far south as Val Morin.”

The company has stated its intention to broaden its market throughout the Laurentians with such towns as St-Adolphe, St-Donat, Esterel, Labelle, Wentworth Nord, St-Sauveur, Prevost, St-Hippolite, Ste-Anne-des-Lacs and many more on the way. “Currently we have a series of 12 microwave access points and by next year we should have 30 in place,” he further stated. “Each subscriber receives a small antenna about the size of a book that can provide up to 3 Mb of speed. Latency is kept very low as opposed to satellite service signals that have to travel 35 thousand kilometres in each direction. Typically our access points are located within 5 miles of each subscriber. Our technology can support voice over I.P., alarm monitoring and for business customers: VPN (virtual private network) which allows them to be in constant touch with their offices.”

“We have rolled out our network, marketing a 1 Mb service even though our equipment is designed to handle 3Mb. Therefore as the demand increases, so will our network speed,” stated Director of Marketing Ali Mohammadi. “Through our NOC (network operating centre) in Montreal we provide state of the art fibre optic based support to our wireless network. All subscribers have access to multiple email and web hosting options, built in Spam and virus filtering, consumer as well as commercial service (hotels, retail, factories etc).”
